Amy West is a successful family law attorney with over 14 years of family law experience. She practices both Family and Criminal Law. She is also certified by the California Board of Legal Specialization as a California Certified Legal Specialist in Family Law. Amy joined our law firm as one of our litigation Attorneys in July 2017.
Prior to joining our firm, Amy owned her own law firm titled WEST MALDONADO LAW GROUP for 2 years and, prior to that, she was a partner at RHOADS & WEST from 2004 to 2015. She has been the lead attorney on approximately 20 full trials, including a rape jury trial, a fraudulent conveyance civil trial, countless custody and visitation trials, several contempt trials as well as trying an international move-away case solo against three attorneys on the opposing side (and won!). Amy has also been the lead attorney on approximately 30 domestic violence restraining orders and/or civil restraining orders evidentiary hearings. She has written and argued two Appeals in front of the 4th DCA. Her favorite part of the law is evidence and cross-examination. She also has recently taught her first CLE for the San Diego County Bar Association on “Evidence in Domestic Violence Evidentiary Hearings” and will be teaching another for the Foothills Bar Association.

Education & Personal Life
Amy is fluent in German as she grew up and resided in Frankfurt, Germany for 10 years and graduated from Frankfurt American High School. She attended the University of Arizona and California Western School of Law. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a 4.0 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History with minors in German and English. She also gave the student commencement speech at the University of Arizona, South in May 2000. She received her Juris Doctor Cum Laude from California Western School of Law in 2002. She also has received an AmJur Award in Legal Skills I, II, Negotiation, Criminal Procedure, and California Trial Evidence.
Hobbies and Personal Interests
Outside the office, Amy enjoys spending time with her family, reading, singing, and participating in CrossFit. She has been married for 5 years to her Husband, Jose, who retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service. Between her and her husband, they have 6 children varying from teens to adults. Amy enjoys volunteering for Do Something Saturdays with The Rock Church and has over 200 Pro Bono Hours in domestic violence litigation
